Vladimir Poutine: Who heads the field of artificial intelligence will lead the world

Russian President Vladimir Poutine said at a meeting that those who arrive or succeed in spearheading the development of artificial intelligence will be able to dominate and lead the world.
Putin said at a meeting with students on Friday that the development of artificial intelligence raises "enormous opportunities and threats that are difficult to predict now." He warned that "whoever becomes the leader in this area will be the ruler of the world."
Putin warned that "it would be highly undesirable if someone won a monopoly position" and promised Russia would be willing to share its expertise in artificial intelligence with other countries. The Russian leader predicted future wars would be drone wars, and "when drones are destroyed by other drones, they will have no choice but to surrender."
Meanwhile, China will launch a series of artificial intelligence projects and increase efforts to develop artistic talents as part of the declared national plan for artificial intelligence exploitation soon, the China Daily reported on Friday, quoting a senior official.
The country focuses on artificial intelligence as it sees it as a tool to boost productivity and empower employees, the paper said. China will launch a large number of AI research and development projects and devote more resources to nurturing talent and increasing the use of AI in education, health care and security, among others, said Wan Gang, minister of science and technology at a conference in Tianjin.
